I started the Jog Belfast programme on 1st September 2014 at Woodvale park. Coming from a first time runner prospective i was nervous and doubting whether i could complete the 10 week programme to enable me to run a 5k distance...Well, i did! With the fantastic guidance of the coaches from Albertville Harriers, we all as a large group gradually built up our stamina and graduated in early November 2014 completing 5k run at the Waterworks Parkrun. I can honestly say it was the best decision i made, making a commitment to exercise - not only for my physical health but also my mental health. Immediately after finishing the Jog Belfast programme i went on to join my local running club (Albertville Harriers) and gradually built up my stamina and confidence to enter fun runs and races. So, as of today i have run numerous 5k, 10k, half marathons and 3 full marathons. The friendships, support and confidence i have achieved through running is immeasurable. So for ANYONE uncertain of joining one of the many Jog Belfast programmes on offer at present...DO IT!! You don't have to compete, it isn't a race its a 'journey' of realising 'YOU CAN!!' I arrived on the first night of the programme knowing no-one else there and quickly made friends for life. What better way to end the summer and kick start a brand new chapter of including exercise in your life?
